A single post in the last year? Wow, I’m vocal, aren’t I?
A lot has changed: I did my guest month at The Digichick almost under the radar because of a ton of real life stuff that fell on top of me all of a sudden, then I sort of winked out of digi-existence, and then over the past year I took web design classes for real, joined Designer Blogs and am now happily… designing blogs. (You didn’t see that coming when I mentioned Designer Blogs, did you? You thought with a name like that I’d taken up knitting, right?) Along with those changes came a blog makeover: for now I’m using my brand new News Nellie premade, not-yet-as-customised-to-fit-my-needs-as-I’d-like-but-getting-there, available at – surprise! – Designer Blogs. So, yes, changes.
And then I look at it, really look at it, and a lot has stayed the same. Design. That word has shaped my life in different ways ever since I was 17, and it’s unlikely to stop. Graphic Design, Advertising Design, Digiscrap Design, Web Design, Blog Design, they’re all me, and they all have that word in common. I should stop trying to qualify it, stop trying to add other words next to it. I design. Does it need to be more explicit than that? Perhaps only in terms of post tags, and that only for your ease of use. Other than that, when someone asks, I’m going to keep it that simple. I design.
And on this somewhat philosophical note I’m going to end this post and get back to blog customising, for myself and clients. I hope to put up a neat portfolio up there in the menu on the next couple of days, and I’d love to hear in the comments what’s been up with anyone who still remembers I existed in digi.
I really love the ring of it. “What do you do?” “I design.”
